SCENE OPENS on Leah at her front door, jittery with nerves and excitement. She opens up and meets Evelyn on the steps, clipboard in hand. Evelyn explains she's there for the adoption home study, her notes the deciding factor. Leah says her girlfriend Toni will be home soon. The meeting feels smooth—lots of easy smiles, relaxed posture, Evelyn actually nodding in approval while scribbling. Leah keeps buzzing, half-anxious, half-thrilled. When Toni finally bursts through the door, Leah leaps up, kisses her on the lips, warm and open. Evelyn freezes mid-scribble, jaw tightens. She covers it fast, polite but clipped, packs up her things, and leaves without another word.
