We don't create a fantasy world to escape reality, we create it to be able to stay. Scene opens on Kate (Cherie DeVille) laying in bed under crisp white sheets pulled up to her shoulders. She's wearing earplugs, shop glasses, and an oxygen mask. She jerks up with a gasp.
Kate stares at her to-do list on the kitchen counter. Every ritual she's built to keep her agoraphobia from swallowing her whole. She reads the list once, twice, then her chest tightens. She smacks the marker down.
She pushes the panic down, washes her hands twice, pulls on latex gloves, and gets moving.
Kate works the list like she's prepping for war. Disinfecting surfaces, sealing every gap, wiping down whatever she touches. The landline rings and she ignores it. Her sibling's voice fills the machine, pissed off and repeating themself, telling her to water the damn plants they left her. Click. Beep.
The front door cracks open. Kate's gloved hand reaches out with the grabber, stretching, missing. She tries again. Nothing. She slams the door, storms to the shower, and scrubs herself raw.
Eyes closed, the world bleeds in. Crowded sidewalks. Smiling strangers. Hands exchanging germs. A cough. The rush of wind through trees. Her jaw clenches while her fingers keep working at her skin. Thoughts flash. Blurred faces in masks. Boots stomping dirt. She licks her lips and her hands slide lower. Arousal hits fast. The image snaps into focus. A mask hitting the ground. Boots crushing it flat. Then the man's face behind the mask. Dick Chibbles.
She comes hard, panting, fingers buried deep.
Who the fuck is this maskless stranger who just invaded her head?
