Help Me Understand

Hazel's typing away on her laptop when Jupiter rolls in from the mall empty-handed. "Apparently you can just order shit online now," Jupiter shrugs. "But I'm lost clicking through all that." Hazel grins, cracks open her screen and brings up her favorite bookstore site. They scroll past the colorful covers together, Jupiter genuinely impressed at the endless stacks that exist beyond the mall's sorry shelves. Then Hazel hits the cart button and that abandoned checkout pops up with the last book she was gonna buy. The title sits there like a slap across both their faces: "How To Come Out As A Lesbian To Your Stepmother." Hazel just sighs and spills it, tells Jupiter she's into girls, always has been. Jupiter looks wrecked for a second, like she's failed at the whole mom thing. "It's not you," Hazel says. "I didn't think you'd get it, you know? You're straight." Jupiter straightens up, love still kicking strong. "I don't have to understand every single thing to still want the best for you. Teach me." Hazel pauses, sees the perfect—if filthy—road forward. "Only real way I can show you is…" Jupiter doesn't even blink. Clothes come off in a rush. They kiss like hungry idiots. Hands find heat, tongues follow, Hazel teaching everything she knows about making another woman come until Jupiter's breathing shaky and very, very educated.
